Rotterdam (Netherlands: Rotterdam) is the second largest city in the Netherlands (after Amsterdam). Located in the province of South Holland. The city boasts the largest port in Europe and until recently the world's largest port. The port is located on the river Maas Niouve. The name Rotterdam derives from a dam (dam) in a small river, the Rotte (Rotte), associated with Niouve Maas in the heart of the city.
